Germany, EU provide 44 mln euro to improve water supply in Albania

TIRANA (Albania), June 4 (SeeNews) – Germany and the EU-supported Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF) are co-financing with loans and grants the fourth phase of a rural water supply programme in southwestern Albania worth a total of 44 million euro ($49.3 million), the finance ministry said.

The fourth phase of the programme will provide safe and reliable drinking water to 80,000 inhabitants living in the southwestern coastal areas, the ministry said in a Facebook post late on Monday, after finance minister Anila Denaj signed three financial agreements with the director of the Albanian office of German development bank KfW, Bjorn Thies.

The programme aims to improve the living conditions of the inhabitants and promote the development of tourism in the target areas.
