Interior minister, Sander Lleshaj said in a televised interview that State Police has applied the law during the intervention to remove demonstrators on the day the National Theatre building was demolished.
Lleshaj said that police intervention in this case was made after a risk assessment was carried out.
“I think State Police has acted proportionally in accordance to the protocols that riot police must follow during a protest, which in this case was associated with violence on police officers”, the interior minister said.
Last Sunday, the demolition of the National Theatre saw clashes between civil society activists, opposition supporters and riot police. Many accused police for the use of excessive force against demonstrators, triggering heated debates as to whether police were acting beyond their powers. TemA
