President Ilir Meta will hold talks with political parties today to decide on a new election date, following his decision on Saturday to cancel June 30 as the date for the next local government elections.
The president’s office says that the first meetings will be held today at 7 pm with right leaning political parties.
The meetings will start immediately after his visit to Kosovo, where the president will attend the celebrations taking place marking the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the country.
This move comes at a time when the Socialist Party has requested his impeachment.
Meanwhile, parliament will hold a five hour debate on Thursday in relation to the decision announced by the president to cancel the elections.
