The US award judge who defended the Justice System Reform against Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha

By Mero Baze

As soon as the US State Department acknowledged that Albanian judge, Ardian Dvorani was ranked among the 12 “International Champions of Anti-Corruption,” President Ilir Meta launched his attack against the United States. The President’s Speaker stated that the April 25 elections will be a vote against the Justice System Reform, while accusing International Diplomats in Tirana as corrupt for supporting the reform. Meanwhile, President Ilir Meta “marched” in one of the capital’s suburbs, swearing that he will not leave the country in the hands of “international oligarchs and mafia.”

According to President Meta, the international mafia in this case is made from the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken who acknowledged that “Judge Dvorani developed mechanisms that reduce the influence of politics and crime in the Justice System, which contributed in EU’s decision to launch the accession talks with Albania.” The statement clearly reveals that Mr. Dvorani was honoured for his year-long battle against Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha as well as his resistance to accept their suggestions for members of Constitutional Court. Both Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha launched an aggressive and personal campaign against Judge Dvorani to send their message against the Justice System Reform to the US and EU.

President Ilir Meta organized a very personal attack against the judge, attempting to blackmail him in his family life. Both Meta and Berisha have their personal confrontations in the past with Ardian Dvorani. After the explosion that left 26 victims in Gerdec, Sali Berisha attempted everything to remove judge Dvorani from the justice system, that would investigate and trial the involvement of Berisha’s son in the corrupt affair. Judge Dvorani lost his own brother, who was a military employee working in Gerdec at the tme. According to Berisha’s tribal logic, Dvorani would have to revenge against him by punishing Berisha’s son for the death of his brother. Ardian Dvorani was also part of the judges that trialled Ilir Meta after the publication of a corruption scandal. For this reason, Meta tried all he could to blackmail the judge at the time.

Both Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta turned their battle against Dvorani in their last hope against the completion of the Justice System Reform. While we have all been aware of this stories, it seems that the United States have also followed them carefully as well as Ardian Dvorani’s resistance, despite the constant attacks against him. Therefore, today they have granted him the Anticorruption Award as if to show us all the true allies of the Justice System Reform.

On the other hand, this has made President Ilir Meta lose his calm as he keeps swearing that the upcoming elections will be a trial against the Justice System Reform. Such a statement is the best outcome of United States’ recent award to Mr. Dvorani. By awarding the opponent of Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta, they have also punished the two enemies of the Justice System Reform.

The President’s Speaker clearly stated that the April elections will be a referendum against the reform. Let them support their campaign through such statements. Ninety percent of Albanians support the reform. Hence, the President will need to share the remaining ten percent with Lulzim Basha if they remain allies after the elections.
