Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha have taken the awarding of judge Ardian Dvorani from the US State Department as a personal attack against them. The President’s official reactions reveal a loss of control, while those of Berisha’s family are even more banal as his son in law was the first to attack the United States, while the rest of the family are committed to personal attacks against judge Dvorani.
Considering the award as a message against them, Meta and Berisha are attempting to depict the US State Department as an institution controlled by Prime Minister Edi Rama. Furthermore, they have sworn that if they win the upcoming elections, they will cancel the Justice System Reform. However, it seems that at this point they have distanced themselves from Lulzim Basha.
The official leader of the Democratic Party has stated recently that, upon winning the elections, he will remain distant from the reform. Furthermore, Basha has made no comments regarding the awarding of judge Dvorani by the US State Department. It seems that the difference in opinions between Lulzim Basha and the Berisha-Meta duo is the result of preliminary consultations with Western diplomats in Tirana since, apart from distancing himself from the duo, Basha is openly campaigning against Ilir Meta who has promised that he will cancel the Justice System Reform.
The reform has been the dividing line between the opposition and the government and Western diplomats on the other hand. This is the first time that it is actually dividing the opposition itself, considering that apart from being politically against the reform, Berisha and Meta have their own personal concerns about it. It is precisely this the reason that they have taken the awarding of judge Dvorani by the US State Department as an attack against them. It still remains to be seen how they will consider Lulzim Basha’s silence in this case.
