The head of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Taulant Ball has reacted following the decision of a court in Tirana to suspend the case against the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha and two other party officials.
“A few days ago, the court decided to acquit Basha in a case which is clear to everyone. My position is clear. Basha has lied to the Albanian public. Lulzim Basha has admitted having obtained 500 thousand USD, while the judge says it’s not true. We need to strengthen legislation about the funding of political parties”, Balla said.
Tirana District Court decided to suspend the case against the leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha and two other democrat officials, Arben Ristani and Ilir Dervishi, who were accused of forging documents in the matter regarding funds which were paid in the US to lobby.
The democrat leader was indicted in relation to a 675 thousand USD lobbying contract entered with a US based company called Biniatta Trade. These funds were allegedly paid during the 2017 election campaign and it’s believed that they originate from Russia. The opposition leader has been accused of failing to declare this amount in the form that each party has to submit to the Central Election Commission with regards to its finances. TemA
