The ruling Socialist Party has decided to temporarily withdraw from the voting of the so called “anti-defamation” bill.
Although this bill was supposed to be passed into a law on Thursday, parliament decided to remove it from the agenda.
Socialist whip, Taulant Balla said that the voting of the bill must be postponed until the Venice Commission offers an opinion about this bill. According to him, the Venice Commission has decided to fast track the deliberation of this bill.
The so called “anti-defamation” bill which sparked a lot of debate in Albania, has ended up in the hands of the Venice Commission. This bill will be examined by the commission in March.
Let us recall that the head of the state refused to sign the “anti-defamation” bill arguing that it was unconstitutional. TemA
